Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
Mass Readings: Pages 105 – 109
Order of Mass: Pages 7 – 47
First Reading: Ecclesiasticus (also known as Sirach) enlarges on the Commandment to honour father and mother.
Psalm: this cheerful psalm has a portrayal of the happy household.
Second Reading: St Paul describes family life in the Lord. Perhaps husbands, wives and children should ask themselves if this truly describes their family life!
Gospel: the Presentation of the child Jesus in the Temple, when the Holy Family fulfilled its Jewish religious obligations. Simeon predicts that Mary will suffer as well as Jesus; this suffering of the disciple is a common theme in St Luke’s Gospel.
