YOUTH MINISTRY

Youth News: Youth Group made an appeal at Sunday Masses on the 22nd  February seeking more young people to join them.

Background:

We held our first meeting towardsend of January.  There was 5 of us all together and we agreed that we would not rush into activities but consider how we should organise ourselves and also seek other like minded young people to join us. We agreed that we would continue to meet from now until the beginning of the summer holidays around middle of July 2009. This would give us sufficient time to discover if the Youth Ministry can be an effective group here at St Anthony’s? So we discussed such things as having a commitment to participate in group activities, being prepared to work together for all the youth in the parish, we need time to prepare and rehearse for a Youth Mass, what is exactly we want in a youth Mass and how the homily should be directed to teenage issues and how we might contribute to the issues and seek help from the congregation? So there was much we discussed and thought about. We will be meting again on Sunday 8th February at 6.30pm in the Church immediately after the 5.30pm Mass. We would be delighted if other young people would join us and be part of the group. Come and join us at least until July 2009. Thank you. Veronica, Sean, Eleanor, Matthew

The basic objectives are as follows:

(a) to develop a Youth Ministry at St Anthony with core objectives around Care, Community, Commitment and Collaboration;

(b) Develop a Youth Register of people (internally who want to participate and have skills and abilities that they want to provide to the Youth Ministry from Readers, Music, organisation, drama or just helping in any way;

(c) Develop Youth Masses and making it more understandable for your young people and youth issues and trying to make the homilies meaningful to the young people and teenage issues

(d) Currently the present group agreed to develop the Ministry until the summer holidays ie around mid July 2009 to see if they can get it off the ground in the parish.
