ALL SAINTS

As we enter the final month of the Church’s year, we turn our attention to all the saints who live triumphantly in heaven, including those not in the canon (list) of saints.

First Reading: St John, in his vision of heaven, sees the innumerable ranks of the saints, who have remained faithful to Christ even unto death.

Psalm: this hymn-like psalm sums up the virtues required to enter heaven: clean hands, a pure heart, and a desire for Godly things, not worthless things.

Second Reading: this passage gives the hope that, as we are children of God, we too can be numbered among the saints in heaven.

Gospel: there are many different ways of understanding the Beatitudes, but one way is to see them as a list of entrance requirements to enter the kingdom of heaven. Many Christians in the world today, especially in Syria and Iraq are suffering the persecution to which Christ refers.

HCPT— Group 30
: Group 30 has been going to Lourdes every Easter since 1968. Today, the group has reached a crossroads. Several of our established helpers now have families and are unable to travel with us anymore. Without helpers we cannot take children to Lourdes. The group is now in real danger of folding. Helpers pay their own fares (currently about £700) but we may be able to financially assist students. We travel by plane to Lourdes on the Saturday before Easter returning a week later. I need about 8 new helpers to form a group. If you are interested in becoming a helper with Group 30 please contact Patrick Cowlard on: 020 8659 5829 or by email: jpcowlard@btinternet.com
