The Baptism of the Lord

0

First Reading: Isaiah has a vision of a king who is a servant of the community, bringing justice and liberation.

Psalm: the references to water make this majestic hymn of praise to the Lord an obvious choice for the psalm.

Second Reading: St Peter starts his sermon to the gentiles with the Baptism of Jesus, which included an anointing with the Holy Spirit.

Gospel: at the beginning of His public ministry Jesus is Baptized by John in the river Jordan, and – most importantly for Mark – receives a clear seal of approval from God the Father. The Holy Spirit is also present, and this is one of the few occasions in scripture when all three Persons of the Trinity are together.

Thank you: The Knights of St Columba would like to thank the people of the parish for their exceptional generosity in donating food, toiletries and new warm clothing in December’s food bank collection.
