Fifteenth Sunday

First Reading: despite not being a member of the order of prophets and being merely a shepherd and sycamore tree cultivator, Amos is nonetheless called 3 by God to prophesy.

Psalm: in his mercy God has forgiven us before; now we ask him to forgive us again.

Second Reading: today we hear the first in a series of readings from the letter to the Ephesians, in a beautiful and typically     Jewish passage about the Blessing of God.

Gospel: the Twelve are sent out in pairs: they are to travel light, preach repentance, cast out devils, and anoint sick people. As a starting point for reflection, what prevents us nowadays from ‘travelling light’? What baggage encumbers the church in its mission? Are we more concerned for maintenance than mission? How, in 2015, do we witness to the simplicity and trust in Christ shown by the Twelve?

Last Sunday’s collections: The 1st collection was £806.07p (including Gift Aided £304.84p). The 2nd collection for World Communications was £103.00p. Thank you for your generosity. Today’s 2nd collection is for the Apostleship of the Sea.

Recently Deceased: Please remember the soul and family of Alexander Sweeney in your prayers. Alexander’s Requiem mass will be at 11am on Thursday 16th July followed by the burial at 12.30.

UCM: The next UCM meeting is this coming Monday (13th July). We will be meeting for a social evening at the Bridge House Tavern (Anerley Park Road) at 8pm. There will be no more UCM meetings until September. The UCM wish you all a good Summer.

Parish Picnic: A big thank you to all who helped out and came along to the parish picnic last Sunday. Fortunately the weather brightened up and everyone had a lovely afternoon eating, drinking and chatting in the sunshine.

Confirmation 2016: Applications are now open for 2016. If your child is in Year 8 or is aged 12 or over then please fill in one of the application forms (available in the narthex). The closing date is 31st July.

First Holy Communion 2016: Applications are now open for 2016. If your child is in Year 3 or is aged 8 or over then please fill in a form (available in the narthex) and give it to the clergy. The closing date is 31st August.

RCIA: If you are an adult who would like to become a Catholic or are a baptised Catholic who has not received First Holy Communion or Confirmation or if you are baptised in another church and would like to become a Catholic then please fill in an RCIA application form (available in the narthex).

Missio/APF (Red Boxes): There are emptied red boxes awaiting collection on a table in the narthex. Thank you for your continuing support.

 

Youth Ministry: Activities for youth at St Anthony’s are ready to begin. We have 3 specially trained Catholic Youth Ministers (CYMs): James Finette, Eva Nagy and Kinga Vajsz and they will need your support.   This week-end (11th/12th July) after all masses children aged 8 – 10 years and their parents will be invited to fill in questionnaires indicating their needs and the activities they would like to become involved in. Children in other age groups are also welcome.

Youth Ministry (2): Discover how to use your creativity to worship God. All young people aged 9—20 years are invited to a series of Art, Drama & Music workshops this Sunday 12th July at Holy Innocents Church, Orpington from 2:45pm to 5:30pm followed by a special youth mass at 6:00pm. Free food and drink will be provided. Do come and join us.
