Sixteenth Sunday

First Reading: Jeremiah’s prophecy of good shepherds and a wise king came true, Christians would say, in the coming of Jesus Christ.

Psalm:  perhaps the most well-known of the psalms is a song of confidence in the Good Shepherd, who is, of course, Jesus Christ.

Second Reading: the Jewish law created a barrier which separated Jews and Gentiles.  But now Jesus Christ has reconciled the two, and both Jews and Gentiles can now worship God together.

Gospel: this is a transition, between the Mission of the Twelve and the beheading of John the Baptist, and the Feeding of the Five Thousand which follows.  We might note especially Our Lord’s compassion: compassion for the twelve apostles, who need rest, and compassion for the large crowd, who need teaching.

Sunday Teas:

This Sunday’s teas will be served by the volunteers.

Last Sunday’s collections: The 1st collection was £867.87p (including Gift Aided  £350.40p).  The 2nd collection for the Apostleship of the Sea was £130.56p. Thank you for your generosity. Today’s 2nd collection is for Parish Funds. The 2nd collection next week will be for Day-for-Life.

Confirmation 2016: Applications are now open for 2016.  If your child is in Year 8 or is aged 12 or over then please fill in one of the application forms (available in the narthex).  The closing date is 31st July.

First Holy Communion 2016: Applications are now open for 2016.  If your child is in Year 3 or is aged 8 or over then please fill in a form (available in the narthex) and give it to the clergy.  The closing date is 31st August.

RCIA: If you are an adult who would like to become a Catholic or are a  baptised Catholic who has not received First Holy Communion or Confirmation or if you are baptised in another church and would like to become a Catholic then please fill in an RCIA application form (available in the narthex).

Baptism Preparation  sessions will be held on 3rd, 10th and 17th of August at 7.30pm in the Parish Centre. All three sessions are important.

Missio/APF (Red Boxes): There are emptied red boxes awaiting collection on a table in the narthex. Thank you for your continuing support.

St Francis of Assisi: Would you like to find out more about the way of life begun by St Francis of Assisi for ordinary people living in the world?  You are invited  to come to the next meeting of the Secular Franciscan Order, Croydon Fraternity on 26th July from 2.30 to 4.30pm at Our Lady of Reparation Church, Wellesley Road, Croydon.

Sunday Teas: Unfortunately there will be no teas next Sunday due to unavailable helpers. In case there is anyone or any group that is available next Sunday and would like to help out and serve the teas then please let the clergy know. Thank you.

 Parish Barn Dance: Following last year’s highly successful barn dance, the Knights of St Columba are repeating the event this year on Friday 23rd October at the Royston Club. Please keep the evening free on your calendar. More details to follow nearer the date.

The Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS): Make yourself indispensable with CCRS…Board of Religious Studies.  The Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS) is important and relevant for all. It is designed for people who are engaged in the communication of their Catholic Faith, whether directly or indirectly. It is open to catechists, people involved in liturgical work and other interested adults.  The CCRS can provide general theological knowledge and offer a better understanding of the Catholic faith. It will help participants to increase their practical application of the faith in their ministry in the Church. Virgo Fidelis: The Open Evenings and Morning for Year 7 entrants for September 2016 will be on Wednesday 16th September, Thursday 1st October from 5.30 to 8.30pm and also Saturday 3rd October from 10am until 12noon (Post 16s are also invited to visit on the Saturday morning).

Recycling:  Please do keep donating your old mobile phones and printer ink cartridges (except Epson) but please no printer toner cartridges.  Thank you.
