Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord

Gospel:  Jesus enters Jerusalem as the Messiah (this is the significance of the details such as the donkey and the colt).  But He is not universally welcome; the Pharisees complain, and Jerusalem is the city which kills the prophets (see Luke 13:34).

First Reading:  this prophecy of the suffering servant, innocent but not retaliating, would be fulfilled by Christ, as we shall hear in the Passion Reading.

Psalm:  although the suffering servant feels abandoned he ends up praising God.  Similarly, Christ’s passion ended in His triumph; His suffering is the way to His glorification.

Second Reading: Christ humbly accepted death on a cross, but precisely because of that God raised Him high so that everyone would acknowledge Him as Lord.

Passion:  Luke’s account of Christ’s Passion.  At the words ‘he breathed his last’ all kneel and pause a moment.

Sunday Teas:

This Sunday’s teas will be served by the French Speaking Prayer Group.

Next Sunday’s teas will be served by the volunteers.

Last Sunday’s collections: The 1st collection was £943.35p (including Gift Aided  £393.60p). The 2nd collection for Easter Flowers was £96.71p.  Thank you for your generosity.  Today’s 2nd  collection is again for Easter Flowers.

Recently deceased: Please pray for the souls and families of Colin Wilson and Tina Grey. The funeral for Colin Wilson will be on Wednesday 23rd of March at 2.15 pm at Beckenham crematorium.   Tina Grey’s funeral will be on Friday 1st April at 12.45pm at Beckenham Crematorium.

Eucharistic Ministers: Please can all the Eucharistic Ministers return their DBS forms to Father Sunith as soon as possible.  Those Ministers who did not collect a form at the meeting, can you please collect a form from the Presbytery.

Stations of the Cross: The Stations of the Cross will be said at 11am (Family Stations of the Cross) and at 7.30pm on Good Friday.

Can you help?: We need at least 8 people who can work together to help raise money for the Clergy Support Fund.  The purpose of this fund is to help sick and retired clergy.  All the training and support will be given by the diocese.  Please let Father Sunith or Father Stuart know if you are interested in helping out this worthy cause.

Mass Book: There are masses available from June onwards if you would like to book a particular mass for those dates.  All masses prior to June are fully booked.

Notification of Marriage: Please note that at least six months notice of a marriage is normally required.  If you are member of this parish the paper work must be completed by this parish no matter where the marriage is solemnised.

Knights of St Columba Food Bank Collection: The Knights are collecting for the Penge Food Bank.  The next collection will be next weekend 26th/27th March (Easter weekend).

Deanery Memorial Service for Bereaved Parents: This will take place on Sunday 17th April at 3pm in St James the Great Community Centre, Petts Wood followed by refreshments.  This service is for all parishioners within the Deanery.

Parish Quiz: There will be a Parish Quiz on Friday 22nd April from 8pm until 10pm at the Royston Club, Royston Road, Penge SE20 7QW.  Please put this date in your diary.  All are welcome.

Guided Walk: There will be a guided walk of historic catholic sites on Saturday 7th May from 11am until 1pm.  More details to follow.

If you celebrating a significant Wedding Anniversary this year 1, 25, 40,50,60+. If you please give  you name, address , telephone number and the anniversary. Archbishop Peter Smith will invite you to special celebration in St. George’s Cathedral on Saturday 18^th June at 3pm. Please give the details  to one of the priests.

The Catholic Certificate of Religious Studies (CCRS): The CCRS is designed for people who are engaged in the communication of their Catholic Faith, whether directly or indirectly.  It is open to catechists, people involved in liturgical word and other interested adults. The CCRS can provide general theological knowledge and offer a better understanding of the Catholic faith.  It will help participants to increase their practical application of the faith in their ministry in the Church.  It provides the means to accurately and effectively communicate the principles of Catholic teaching.  More details about start dates, fees and your nearest centre please visit the CCRS website www.brs-ccrs.org.uk or call us on 020 7901 190.
