Third Sunday of Easter
Mass Readings: 258 – 261,
Order of Mass: Pages 7 – 47
The understanding of the Old Testament in its fulfilment is an important stage in the discovery of the true meaning of Easter, for us as well as for the apostles. The people of God which is the Church is the inheritor of the promises comes to its perfection in our lives of faith and service. It is an important theme in the stories of the risen Lord with his disciples, that he opened up the Scriptures to them.
Facing the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ at Easter, we face our own death to sin and new life in Christ in Baptism. Because we live in a world of extended news bulletins, the crises across the nations which come into our homes and pressures of all kinds locally, it is difficult to stand back and make space for prayer. Yet this we must try to do if we are to escape from drowning in the ever encroaching waves of materialism. To stop, to make this space, is to battle against the tide. But don’t give up! Take courage! You will find spending time with God gives you a greater certainty and peace. Try a little each day. You will come to know yourself better and what to do for God and for others.

St John’s Seminary – Wonersh: Can you help? The Seminary, near Guidford, Surrey (which has been involved in the formation of priests for over 125 years) is looking for some help with the cost of re-decoration and refurbishment of 30 of its bedrooms, which have received little or no upgrading for 40+ years. The Seminary operates on a very tight budget, and there are no funds available for this much-needed work, which would cost in the region of £2000 per room. If you can help in any way, please send a cheque made payable to St John’s Seminary to: Mgr Gerry Ewing (Vice-Rector), St John’s Seminary, Wonersh, Guildford, Surrey GU5 0QX. Thank you so much!
Please pray for the sick of the Parish: John Barry, Mercie Ihekweme-Hill, Kieran Quinn and Michael Creech.
