The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
Mass Readings: 85 – 89
Order of Mass: Pages 7 – 47
First Reading: this tells of the covenant between God and Moses, which involved blood sacrifices. For Catholics – people of the new covenant – every Mass is a sacrifice, a representing of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.
The Psalm continues the theme of the thanksgiving sacrifice.
Second Reading: Christ is the mediator of the covenant, and as the true High Priest he offers in the true Temple in heaven the perfect sacrifice (by His blood) which takes away our sins. Every Mass is but an earthly copy of the eternal Liturgy in heaven.
The Sequence (the ‘Lauda Sion’ written by St Thomas Aquinas specially for the then new Feast of Corpus Christi).
Gospel: the Last Supper. The words (“take it, this is my body … this is my blood … which is to be poured out for many”) are of course repeated by the Priest at every Mass. So too does the Priest perform the four actions of Christ: taking, blessing, breaking, and giving.

Parish Pilgrimage to Lourdes 2019: 2nd to 6th September costing £620 per person based on a shared room. Single room supplement is £112. The cost includes air fare and full board at the 3 star Hotel Beau Site which was restored in 2015. As the flight is open to other groups as well as ours and there are obviously a limited number of seats on the plane the pilgrimage is on a first come first served basis though we are ahead of the game! Booking is made by individuals direct with the tour company, Tagney Tours, which runs Diocesan pilgrimages and booking forms will be available from Fr. Stuart this weekend (2nd June). Please note that this pilgrimage is strictly reserved for St Anthony’s parishioners.
Church Repairs: Until further notice, on Sundays where there is no diocesan collection, all our retiring collections will go towards our church restoration fund. In addition, one of the wall boxes (near to the water font at the side door) has been re-allocated to this fund. Any donations will be much appreciated. If you are a registered gift-aider, please put donations in an envelope with your name or unique gift aid number on it, and we will be able to reclaim the tax that you have already paid to HMRC on them.
Pastoral Letter from the Archbishop of Southwark: Please do take a copy of the pastoral letter (available in the Narthex).
