Eleventh Sunday

Mass Readings: 95 – 97

Order of Mass: Pages 7 – 47

God is the first to know that it is not easy for human beings to take up the cross and follow Jesus Christ. That is why God sent his Son and commissioned him to preach and teach and above all give us the example of his life and death. In his life, Jesus prayed and worshipped giving us the lead. We must always strive to follow the example of Jesus and deepen our commitment to the Father. We should centre on our own personal life of prayer, on the Mass and the Eucharist. Here, at Mass we meet Jesus in a very special way through his word in the readings and the homily and in Holy Communion. That is—if we come.

Prayer and the Eucharist are the foundation of our power to fulfil our commission of going out to teach the salvation gained for each and everyone by Jesus. To stay away from these wonderful gifts is to weaken ourselves, weaken the Church and weaken our witness in our homes and neighbourhood.

People often talk about the fact that more and more young people are leaving the Church. This is a great cause of sorrow in our lives. We must all realise that we have a part to play in bringing them to the Church. No, it is not easy to encourage children and our young people to give time and interest to God and the Church. But more is achieved by love and example than any other way. Take a short time to think about yourself, God and the Gospel. Try always to share in the Mass, especially always receiving Holy Communion.
