Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord

At the Vigil Mass: (pages 216 – 250)
There are up to seven Old Testament readings, plus an Epistle and a Gospel. The reading from Exodus must always be read, and it is very meaningful to those being Baptized this night: their experience is like that of those saved through the waters of the Red Sea.
Epistle: just as Jesus died and then rose again, so in Baptism we die to sin and are given new life in Christ Jesus. No wonder that the Psalm is a song of thanksgiving.
Gospel: the crucifixion had seemed to be the end of the story of Jesus. But to the women’s amazement “He has risen”.

At the Mass of the Day:
In the First Reading we hear the very first preaching about Jesus and especially about His resurrection. Again, this is followed by a Psalm of thanksgiving and rejoicing.
In the two alternative Second Readings St Paul makes different points about the implications, for us, of the Lord’s resurrection.
The Easter Sequence, or Victimae paschali laudes is then recited, and as it is an ancient chant it is better if it is sung.
Gospel: Mary of Magdala and the two disciples find Christ’s tomb empty; when they see the linen shrouds rolled up, they realise that His body has not been stolen, but rather rose miraculously.

The Knights of St Columba were formed on the principles of Charity, Unity and Fraternity, with the most important being Charity. This is at the heart of all our actions. The Lord regarded acts of mercy and charity as being most important. Therefore we invite more Catholic men to become more involved in the Lay Apostolate and Evangelising. If you are interested.
