Fifteenth Sunday (B)

Mass Readings: 106 – 108

Order of Mass: Pages 7 – 47

First Reading: despite not being a member of the order of prophets and being merely a shepherd and sycamore tree cultivator, Amos is nonetheless called by God to prophesy.

Psalm: in his mercy God has forgiven us before; now we ask him to forgive us again.

Second Reading: today we hear the first in a series of readings from the letter to the Ephesians, in a beautiful and typically Jewish passage about the Blessing of God.

Gospel:  the Twelve are sent out in pairs: they are to travel light, preach repentance, cast out devils, and anoint sick people. As a starting point for reflection, what prevents us nowadays from ‘travelling light’? What baggage encumbers the church in its mission? Are we more concerned for maintenance than mission? How, in 2018, do we witness to the simplicity and trust in Christ shown by the Twelve?

Sunday Teas:

This Sunday’s teas will be served by the French Speaking Prayer Group.

Next Sunday’s teas will be served by the SVP Group.
Thank you to all those who help out with the Sunday Teas.

Last Sunday’s Collections: The 1st collection was £488.70p + £299.53p in Gift Aid envelopes giving us a parish total of £788.23p. The 2nd collection for the Apostleship of the Sea was £109.39p. Thank you for your generosity.

Today’s 2nd collection is for our Church Repair Fund 2018.

Annual Parish Pilgrimage: The cost of the pilgrimage to Minster Abbey is £25 which includes a £6 donation to the Abbey. Bookings with fares will start being taken after all masses this weekend (but not during the month of August).

UCM: Please note that there is no meeting in the Parish Centre this month as it is the UCM Summer Outing. Meet in the Bridge House Tavern on Monday (16th July) from 7.30pm. There will be no meeting in August.

Eucharistic Ministers Meeting: Please note that there will be a meeting for all Eucharistic Ministers on Monday 23rd July at 7.30pm in the Parish Centre.

RCIA: RCIA classes will be beginning again soon so if you are interested in becoming a Catholic then please fill in a green form (found in the Narthex) and give it to one of the clergy. Thank you.

Sound Proof Panels: If your child is crying or making lots of noise then please take them into the Narthex where sound proof panels have now been fitted. Thank you.

Church Repairs: Until further notice, on Sundays where there is no diocesan collection, all our retiring collections will go towards our church restoration fund. In addition, one of the wall boxes (near to the water font at the side door) has been re-allocated to this fund. Any donations will be much appreciated. If you are a registered gift-aider, please put donations in an envelope with your name or unique gift aid number on it, and we will be able to reclaim the tax that you have already paid to HMRC on them.

New Publications: Please take a look in the Church shop for two new holy books that are now available ‘Visits to the Blessed Sacrament’ and ‘The Holy Hour’.

Music in the Park takes place in Alexandra Recreation Ground on Sunday 22nd July from 3.00pm to 5.00pm. Bring a picnic, folding chair or rug and make an afternoon of it listening to the Beckenham Concert Band. Home-made cake stall, soft drinks, raffle, and nibbles by Himalayan Kitchen. Should it rain, the event will take place in the Holy Trinity Centre. All welcome.
