Fourteenth Sunday (B)
Mass Readings: 103 106
Order of Mass: Pages 7 47
******************************************
First Reading: this is but one example of how throughout Old Testament times the people of God rejected theprophets he sent.
Psalm: let us sing or say this psalm in acknowledgement that we have at times rejected God and his messengers.
Second Reading: St Paul mentions the ‘thorn in the flesh’ he received, to stop him becoming too proud. Maddeningly, we have no idea what this was.
Gospel: Jesus’ inability to achieve much in His home town, because of their unbelief, poses challenging questions to us as a parish, as a community of faith. Do we truly have faith in Jesus Christ? Do we recognise him when He comes among us? Are we open to Christ working in our midst?
Sunday Teas:
This Sunday’s teas will be served by the UCM.
Next Sunday’s teas will be served by the French Speaking Prayer Group.
Thank you to all those who help out with the Sunday Teas.
Last Sundays Collections: The 1st collection was £663.80p + £358.40p Gift Aid envelopes giving us a parish total of £1022.20p. Other collections were: £98.42p for our Church Repair Fund 2018 and £135.25p for Peters Pence. Thank you for your generosity. Today’s 2nd collection is for The Apostleship of the Sea (a Catholic charity supporting seafarers worldwide).
Parish Picnic: Thank you to all those parishioners who came along to the Annual Parish Picnic last Sunday. There was plenty of food for everyone to share and all who came along had an enjoyable time.
Annual Parish Pilgrimage: Please see the enclosed insert regarding the Parish Pilgrimage to Minster Abbey. The cost is £25 which includes a £6 donation to the Abbey. Bookings with fares will start being taken after all masses from next weekend (but not during the month of August).
Eucharistic Ministers Meeting: Please note that there will be a meeting for all Eucharistic Ministers on Monday 23rd July at 7.30pm in the Parish Centre.
RCIA: RCIA classes will be beginning again soon so if you are interested in becoming a Catholic then please fill in a green form (found in the Narthex) and give it to one of the clergy. Thank you.
Sound Proof Panels: If your child is crying or making lots of noise then please take them into the Narthex where sound proof panels have now been fitted. Thank you.
Church Repairs: Until further notice, on Sundays where there is no diocesan collection, all our retiring collections will go towards our church restoration fund. In addition, one of the wall boxes (near to the water font at the side door) has been reallocated to this fund. Any donations will be much appreciated. If you are a registered giftaider, please put donations in an envelope with your name or unique gift aid number on it, and we will be able to reclaim the tax that you have already paid to HMRC on them.
New Publications: Please take a look in the Church shop for two new holy books that are now available ‘Visits to the Blessed Sacrament’ and ‘The Holy Hour’.
