Parish Monthly Newsletter February 2023

Welcome to St. Anthony’s Church

We kindly ask that you respect our Parish Church guidance:

¨ People displaying any symptoms of Covid should stay at home and not travel to church or participate in person.

¨ Hand sanitiser is available to those attending Church.

¨ The use of face masks is advised but is a personal choice.

¨ The use of hymn books and other worship aids are permitted as part of the liturgy.

¨ Whenever possible, please try to avoid sitting or standing too close to other parishioners when attending public acts of worship.

¨ The Sign of Peace will still continue without physical contact.

¨ Holy Communion will continue to be given on the hand and not on the tongue.

¨ People who are engaged in a form of pastoral ministry which involves ministry to the housebound, sick and vulnerable, are advised to take regular lateral flow tests to ensure they are safe to do so.

Mass times:

Mondays to Saturdays:   9.30am (7.30pm on Tuesdays)
Sunday Masses:               6pm (Saturday evenings);  9.30am;  11.15am and 5.30pm.

Adoration and Benediction is every Friday 7.30pm.

Please note that after week day masses The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for 30 minutes so that parishioners can pray for world peace.

Sunday Teas: Sunday teas and coffees are served in the Parish Centre after the Sunday 9.30am mass.

This month the following groups will be serving the teas:

5th February:  The Knights of St Columba

12th February:  The Parish Pastoral Council

19th February:  The Union of Catholic Mothers

Are you a musician or a singer? If you would like to join in with the music on a Sunday morning (9.30am Mass) then please do come along.

Save the date! Racial Justice Sunday: On Sunday 5th February 2023 at 10am, all are invited to the Racial Justice Sunday Mass at St George’s Cathedral which will be celebrated by Archbishop John Wilson.  The Mass will also be live streamed via the RC Southwark YouTube account: https://bit.ly/RJS2023.  Those attending in person are encouraged to wear cultural dress and are asked to be seated by 9.45am for a prompt start at 10am.

Faith in Action Catholic Awards Scheme: Saturday 11th February at 11am – 12.30pm at Bishop Challoner School.  Please see the notice board for further information.

Engaged Encounter: Marriage Encounter is a national Catholic organisation that offers two experiences to enrich relationships, improve family relationships and brings God to the heart of marriages and families.  The experiences are available online or in person.  For further information and book an experience please visit their website: https://wwme.org.uk

Charity Concert: Friends of the Holy Land presents The London Welsh Male Voice Choir, a charity concert in support of Christians in the Holy Land with guest soloists ‘The Priests’.  7.30pm on Thursday 16th February at Westminster Cathedral, Victoria Street, London.  Tickets priced from £20.  Please see the notice board or visit www.friendsoftheholyland.org.uk/westminster-concert2023.

Local Food Bank: Please help support families in need by contributing to the local food bank. If you would like to donate then please leave your donations at the back of the Church.

Tax payers, please join the Gift Aid programme allowing our parish to increase the value of every donation it receives from tax payers by 25%. We value your assistance in

Archdiocese of Southwark Lent Retreat, 2023: ‘Renewed in Hope’: Make some space to develop your relationship with God this Lent.  Sign up for the Diocesan Lent Retreat “Renewed in Hope”.  Every week you will receive an email with links to a 20 minute video in which Archbishop John will introduce the theme and the reading.  Chris Chapman will deliver the retreat programme and a witness will speak of the relevance in their daily life.  You will also receive materials to use in your own prayer and reflection.  All you have to do is sign up here http://eepurl.com/hVT7Dv set aside what space you can for reflection and join us in being Renewed in Hope!  Please see the notice board for further details.

Worth Abbey School Chaplaincy: Vacancy for ‘Forerunners’: Worth School in West Sussex employ a number of young adults (Forerunners) who live and work at Worth, living in a community, praying, receiving formation from both the Chaplaincy and the Monks at Worth Abbey, whilst also taking part in the mission to Worth School.  This is a short term mission, usually two years, but it can be one year.  They are currently recruiting new Forerunners for September 2023: if this opportunity is of interest, please find out further details on the TES website at https://www.tes.com/jobs/vacancy/youth-minister-west-sussex-1762999.  The forerunner website can be found here: https://forerunners.worth.org.uk/
