Trinity Sunday

Today is Trinity Sunday. We are able to think about God who created heaven and earth, and about God coming to live as a man among us, and about the God we experience in our lives. In other words, we can cope with the ideas of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Also, we can cope with the idea of there being one God only.

We may not understand how it is that God can be both one God and also three persons, but we can draw great profit from meditating on the revelation that he is. Each of the three persons is complete and perfect in itself: Jesus is perfect as the Son, as a human being; the Spirit is perfect as the Spirit; the Father is perfect as the Father. Yet they are one God and that God is infinite and therefore cannot be divided. The three persons therefore, must be bound together in the perfect unity of perfect love. We are called to become like God, so this is a model for us and very rich one. We are called, not only to become perfect  persons, but also to be bound together in the perfect unity of perfect peace. We have all met people who want to have unity at the cost of riding roughshod over the opinions and feelings of individuals; and today we meet an increasing number of people loudly shouting about their right to personal freedom irrespective of the values and consensus of the community which alone makes their freedom possible. It takes very special people to be committed to both ideals at the same time; it takes people committed to growing in their understanding ; it takes people at whom the world marvels, saying ‘See how these Christians love one another’.

May they rest in peace.

Invitation to new readers: Have you read at Mass before, maybe in another parish? Have you made your confirmation recently? Have you thought about becoming a reader but not put your thought into action? We will have an introduction meeting for anyone interested in becoming a reader on Tuesday 5 June from 7.45 to 8.45 at the church. Please come along if you would like to find out more.

Church Repairs: Until further notice, on Sundays where there is no diocesan collection, all our retiring collections will go towards our church restoration fund. In addition, one of the wall boxes (near to the water font at the side door) has been re-allocated to this fund. Any donations will be much appreciated. If you are a registered gift-aider, please put donations in an envelope with your name or unique gift aid number on it, and we will be able to reclaim the tax that you have already paid to HMRC on them.

The Bethlehem Nativity Group, who visited our Parish last weekend to sell Olive Wood religious carvings from the Holy Land, would love to express huge thanks to everyone who supported their good cause, the result of which was very beneficial and rewarding for their needy Christian families, (raising £1858.96). They don’t have enough words to thank you with but will make sure that you are always in their prayers. www.tbng.co.uk
