Second Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy)
Mass Readings: Pages 262 – 265
Order of Mass: Pages 6 – 60
Today, the Octave of Easter, is also Divine Mercy Sunday. A Plenary Indulgence is available to those who recite the Divine Mercy prayers today.
First Reading: the Eastertide readings from Acts continue. The early Church was a very effective Church. Things happened. The number of converts “increased steadily”.
Psalm: a song of thanksgiving for the marvellous works of the Lord, which make us glad.
Second Reading: the first in a series of readings from the Apocalypse, St John’s vision of heaven. He sees the risen and ascended Jesus Christ, describing Him as “a Son of man” (using the phrase from Daniel 7:13), the “First and the Last”, and “the Living One”.
Gospel: the risen Jesus appears to the disciples (minus Thomas the Twin) and gives them the Holy Spirit in order to be able to forgive sins. A week later He appears to them again, and this time Thomas sees and believes.
