The Tenth Sunday
Mass Readings: Pages 93 – 96
Order of Mass: Pages 6 – 60
+++++++++++

First Reading: Luke, when he wrote his account of the raising of the widow’s son by Jesus (in today’s Gospel), clearly had in his mind the incident in 1st Kings which describes Elijah’s raising of the widow’s son. Jesus is foreshadowed by the great prophet Elijah.

Psalm: if Jesus Christ has ever done anything for you, you can personalise this psalm and use it to praise and thank Him.

Second Reading: St Paul states that he received the Gospel in a supernatural revelation directly from Christ; this revelation was a spiritual and theological understanding, not the historical facts of Jesus such as we find in the Gospels.

Gospel: by this healing miracle (recorded only in Luke) Jesus – in His mercy and compassion – ends the woman’s weeping and becomes the object of the people’s awe and devotion.

The London Encounter: The London Encounter is a one day cultural festival with profound Catholic roots. The day (Saturday 11th June) involves exhibitions, presentations and discussions on this year’s theme, “No Man is an Island”. It is an opportunity to ask: what do we truly desire? How can we best face the challenges of life? More details can be found on www.thelondonencounter.co.uk, and at www.facebook.com/TheLondonEncounter.

Can you help prisoners and their families? You are invited to come and see the opportunities for you to volunteer to help those in prison, prisoner’s families, and ex-offenders. The Catholic prison charity Pact (Prison Advice and Care Trust) works in several prisons across London and relies heavily to help those in need. Saturday 11th June, drop in anytime between 9.30am to 1pm at St George’s Cathedral, Amigo Hall. For more information contact Tom: Thomas.Brindle@prisonadvice.org.uk or call 020 30316869.

Penge Festival 2016: This year’s Penge Festival is now on (4th to the 26th June). The theme is ‘Celebrating Heritage’. There will be a variety of celebrations taking place over these three weeks in June: Walks and trails, Tour de Penge, Kiddies Fun Day, Theatre Events, Organ Recitals, Penge Art Trail, Art in Crystal Palace Park, Walter de la Mare and Ira Aldridge celebrations, Over 60s Party, Cream Tea Bingo, Penge Poetry Competition, ‘Beating the Bounds’, Grand Festival Fete and many more events. The organisers hope there will be something for everyone. All are welcome.

Microphone: Hopefully the microphone has been fixed. Please let the clergy know (after the Mass) if the microphone continues to cut out during Mass. Thank you.

Confessional Box: If your baby is crying during the Mass please do use the confessional box instead of leaving the Church. The confessional box has quite good sound proofing. You are also able to hear the Mass from inside the box. The plan is to eventually install a monitor inside the confessional box so that you will be able to watch the Mass easily.

Please pray for the sick of the Parish: Margaret Glennon, Bridget McLaughlin, Ellen Garvey, John Barry , Margaret Southwell and Mercie Ihekweme-Hill.
