Thirty-second Sunday

Mass Readings: Page 154 – 157

Order of Mass: Pages 7– 47

First Reading: the poor widow in Zarephath demonstrates her piety by giving Elijah food out of the little she had.  Elijah demonstrates that he is a prophet from God as his prophecy about her reward comes to pass.

Psalm:  Almighty God cares for the poor and needy, such as widows and orphans.

Second Reading: Christ, the true high priest, has once and for all offered the sacrifice (himself) to take away our sins in the true sanctuary in Heaven.  ‘Once and for all’ means that it can never be repeated.

In today’s Gospel we see a contrast between the false piety of the scribes (who are ‘stuffed shirts’) and the rich, and the genuine piety and generosity of the poor widow.  Which of the two is your discipleship more like?

By Fr David Gibbons, Centre for Catholic Formation

SVP from Beckenham will be here to recruit new  members for Anerley SVP.

Parish Christmas Fair: We are now collecting items for the Christmas Fair (which will be on the 5th December).  If you have any unwanted gifts or good quality items that would attract people to a stall (for example, gifts sets or bottles) then please do donate them by leaving them in the box in the narthex.  For a successful fair, we need appealing items which will attract buyers and help raise funds for the Church.  Thank you.

Christmas Fair Hamper: From next weekend (14th/15th November) the Knights of St Columba will be selling raffle tickets after each mass for the Christmas Hamper.  The raffle will be drawn at the Christmas Fair.  Each ticket entry costs £1. We are grateful for any support you can give.

Can you help prisoners and their families?: You are invited to come and see the opportunities for you to volunteer to help those in prison, prisoner’s families, and ex-offenders. The Catholic prison charity Pact (Prison Advice & Care Trust) work in several prisons across London and rely heavily on volunteers to help those in need.  Saturday 14th November from 10.00am–2.30pm, Westminster Cathedral Hall.  For more information contact:
