Seventeenth Sunday (B)
Mass Readings: 112 – 114
Order of Mass: Pages 7 – 47
First Reading: this incident in the Old Testament foreshadows the miracle of the Feeding of the Five Thousand, and even more significantly it is one of the many passages in the Old Testament which foreshadows the Eucharist.
Psalm: in his compassion God feeds us. In return, all we can do is to praise him.
Second Reading: the church is not a collection of individuals; rather we are bound together in unity (or communion we might say) through our common Baptism.
Gospel: this is John’s account of the Feeding of the Five Thousand. What is especially noticeable is that John uses the same words to describe what Jesus did at this miracle as at His Last Supper: He took the loaves, gave thanks, and gave them out.
Sunday Teas:
This Sunday’s teas will be served by the volunteers.
Please note that there will be no teas served in August.
Thank you to all those who help out with the Sunday Teas.
Last Sunday’s Collections: The 1st collection was £433.45p + £235.00p in Gift Aid envelopes giving us a parish total of £668.45p. The 2nd collection for our Church Repair Fund 2018 was £119.41p. Thank you for your generosity.
Today’s 2nd collection is for our Church Repair Fund 2018.
Baptism Preparation: The next classes will be on Thursdays, the 2nd and 9th August at 7.30pm in the Parish Centre.
First Confession and First Holy Communion: If you have not filled in an application form then please call the Presbytery to collect a form.
Annual Parish Pilgrimage: The cost of the pilgrimage to Minster Abbey (Saturday 29th September) is £25 which includes a £6 donation to the Abbey. Bookings with fares will be taken after all masses this weekend and then again in September.
RCIA: RCIA classes will be beginning again soon so if you are interested in becoming a Catholic then please fill in a green form (found in the Narthex) and give it to one of the clergy. Thank you.
Car Park: Please be considerate when you are parking. Please do NOT block the entrance. Your car may get damaged and the Church will not accept any responsibility for it.
Sound Proof Panels: If your child is crying or making lots of noise then please take them into the Narthex where sound proof panels have now been fitted. Thank you.
Church Repairs: Until further notice, on Sundays where there is no diocesan collection, all our retiring collections will go towards our church restoration fund. In addition, one of the wall boxes (near to the water font at the side door) has been re-allocated to this fund. Any donations will be much appreciated. If you are a registered gift-aider, please put donations in an envelope with your name or unique gift aid number on it, and we will be able to reclaim the tax that you have already paid to HMRC on them.
New Publications: Please take a look in the Church shop for two new holy books that are now available ‘Visits to the Blessed Sacrament’ and ‘The Holy Hour’.
August: Please note that during the month of August, there will be NO Adoration or Benediction (however there will be the First Friday Silent Adoration on 3rd August). There will be no newsletter or teas and most of the Parish groups will not be meeting.
