Parish Monthly Newsletter July 2024

Welcome to St. Anthony’s Church

We kindly ask that you respect our Parish Church guidance:

¨ Please turn off your mobile phone when you enter the Church.

¨ Please remember that many parishioners like to pray before and after the mass so please be respectful and keep talking/noise to a minimum.

¨ People displaying any symptoms of Covid or Flu should stay at home and not travel to church or participate in person.

¨ Hand sanitiser is available near the entrances to the Church.

¨ The use of face masks is a personal choice.

¨ Holy Communion can now be received on the tongue or on the hand and The Sign of Peace can now be carried out with handshakes (if you so wish).

Mass times:

Mondays to Saturdays: 9.30am (and 7.30pm on Tuesdays);

Sunday Masses: 6pm (Saturday evenings); 9.30am; 11.15am and 5.30pm.
Adoration and Benediction:   Every Friday at 7:30pm.

Please note that after every week day mass (except Wednesdays) The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for 30 minutes so that parishioners can pray for world peace. 

The Angelus

The Angelus will be said every Saturday at 6pm, before the evening Mass, and after the 11.15am Mass on Sunday.

Sunday Teas: The next Sunday teas will be served by the following groups:

7th July:  The Union of Catholic Mothers

14th July: The Parish Pastoral Council

21st July: The Knights of St Columba

Recently Deceased: Please pray for the soul of Anthony Sullivan.  The funeral will be at 11am on Tuesday 30th July followed by the committal at Hither Green Cemetery at 1.30pm.  May his soul rest in peace.

Diaconal Day: On Sunday 14th July we are celebrating our first Archdiocesan Diaconal Day, during which we pray for the Permanent Deacons serving in our Archdiocese as well as we pray for the new vocations to this ministry. If you are a man between 21 years to 58 years, prayerful, with the desire to love God and God’s people, you are involved in services within your parish and community, you have tried many things and still feel drawn to a closer relationship with Christ and His Church you might possibly be called to be a Permanent Deacon?  If you require further information about the Permanent Diaconate, please speak to your Parish Priest, or contact the Diaconate Formation Director via e-mail: ianblack@rcaos.org.uk.

Divine Mercy Retreat: The Divine Mercy Apostolate, London is holding a Divine Mercy Retreat on Saturday 20 July 2024 from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm at St Sebastian and St Pancras R.C. Church , 22 Hay Lane, Kingsbury  NW9 0NG.  The Retreat will include teachings on the Message of Mercy, Stations of the Cross, Holy Mass, Hour of Mercy with Adoration and Benediction and Veneration of the Image of Merciful Jesus. Summertime 2024: 29th July – 1st August: Altar Servers Trip to Westminster Pastoral Centre, £189. For aged 11-16. We commend this excellent residential trip for altar servers and those who regularly attend mass on the weekend. It is a few days for deepening one’s catholic faith, in a great social atmosphere, including football, sports and visit to Thorpe Park. Bible Reading: The Bible reading sessions on Fridays at 5pm will continue again after the Summer so please look out for the notice in September’s newsletter.

Financial Support: We appreciate your continued care and support for our parish Community.  Parishioners can contribute directly to the Parish bank account: Natwest Bank Beckenham Branch, Sort Code 60-02-12 and Account Number 46000208. Tax payers, please join the Gift Aid programme allowing our parish to increase the value of every donation it receives from tax payers by 25%. We value your assistance in maintaining our wonderful Parish community.  Please note that the name of the Parish Bank Account is RCAS St Anthony of Padua Anerley.  

ANCCG retreat ‘IGNITE 2024’ Friday 16 – Sunday 18 August 2024: Venue – Windmill Farm, Brampton, OX18 2SN.  All Nations Catholic Charismatic Group (ANCCG) is organising a long weekend family and youth residential retreat in Brampton, Oxfordshire. There will be opportunities for private and group prayers, talks on spirituality, family, health and finances and a social/ fun day with barbeque. Please see the notice board for further information.  

Pilgrimage of Reparation & Prayer for the Sanctity of Life to Walsingham, Saturday 3rd August, to be led by Bishop David Oakley of Northampton. 

Please consider joining this pilgrimage, if possible in person, or online at walsingham.org.uk/live-stream/ The need for prayer to support life has been great since the passing of the 1967 Abortion Act. It  is now increasingly needed as the pressures to allow abortion up to birth grow, along with a swelling campaign to introduce Assisted Suicide. Pope Saint John Paull II urged everyone to join in the  ‘great prayer for life’. Flame 2025: Flame is the largest Catholic youth event in the UK, featuring guest speakers, award-winning musicians, praise and worship, Eucharistic Adoration and much more! Southwark Archdiocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage: Archbishop John warmly invites you to join him as he leads the Southwark Archdiocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage, from 23rd to 30th August 2024. If you would like to book a Mass, there are envelopes at the back of the church.

Those who help in whatever way in the Parish, read at Mass, clean the Church, arrange flowers, help with Parish events or generally help in the background, are thanked for their generous help and support. 

Notices for the newsletter need to be emailed/posted to the presbytery by the last Thursday of the month (anerley@rcaos.org.uk).

Please note that there will be no newsletter for the month of August.

Established in 1878, revived in 1927 & consecrated on 14th June 1950. We are a registered charity under the Archdiocese of Southwark with Parish Priest Father Sunith Nonis & Assistant Priest Father Stuart Meyer.
